Jurij Beguš
Chair, Extension Working Party
Slovenia Forest Service
Jurij Beguš is a Head of Department for forestry technique in Slovenia Forest Service. He graduated forestry at Ljubljana University, Slovenia in 1982, and master degree of forest technology in 2002 at the same University. Before he joined Slovenia Forest Service in 1994 he used to work for thirteen years in forest management planning as a project planner. Today his main responsibilities at Slovenia Forest Service are forestry engineering, efficiently use of wood biomass mainly from the information point of view, extension for private forest owners and participation in forestry.
Besides his professional activities he is chairman of IUFRO working party for forestry Extension, for several years he was member of Steering Committee of Joint FAO/ECE/ILO committee on forest technology management and training as a coordinator for area “Wood harvesting and transport”. He presented and published several papers and publications about forestry extension, safe work in forest, wood biomass and forest roads. He is active with FAO, ILO, ECE, ELO and other international organizations. As international expert for biomass, forestry extension and participation in forestry he collaborated in projects in different countries (Czech Republic, FYR Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia).

Mangala De Zoysa,
Deputy Chair
Technology Transfer Working Party
Mangala De Zoysa is Professor, Department of Agricultural Economics, Faculty
of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. In 2008 he was Invited
Fellow, Department of Global Agricultural and Forest Sciences at the University
of Tokyo, Japan. In 2007 he served as Visiting Professor, School of Environment & Natural
Resources, University of Wales, Bangor, United Kingdom. His research
interests include forest policy, forest extension, agro-forestry and community
forestry. In addition to his role with the Extension and Technology Transfer
Working Party, Mangala is Deputy Coordinator, IUFRO Research Group, Agro-forestry.

Cindy Miner
Deputy Chair Technology, Transfer Working Party
Cindy Miner is an assistant station director for communications and applications with the Pacific Northwest Research Station of the US Forest Service. She provides leadership and coordination in communications at the Station including assuring the scientific information and technology it generates is used by policy makers, land managers and the public. She manages a communications program including strategic communications, public affairs, web and social media, technology transfer, and conservation education. With a background in forestry, science journalism, and the adoption of innovations, she strives to integrate knowledge and activities across these subjects. She is co-deputy coordinator for the International Union of Forest Research Organizations Task Force for Communicating Forest Science and the Technology Transfer Working Party. She has been collaborating with others internationally for about 15 years.

Dr. Eric Norland
Deputy Chair, Extension Working Party
Dr. Eric Norland is National Program Leader, Forest Resource Management, at the U. S. Department of Agriculture – National Institute of Food and Agriculture. He provides national leadership to the Extension Forestry Program of the Cooperative Extension System, manages the Renewable Resources Extension Act program, and provides administrative and policy leadership for the McIntire-Stennis Cooperative Forestry Research program. Prior to joining the Institute in 2001, Dr. Norland was a faculty member at The Ohio State University where he served as County Extension Agent, District Extension Specialist and State Extension Specialist, authoring and co-authoring Extension publications, teaching materials for county extension agents, and videos on forest resource management, forestry BMP’s and pond management. At the time of his departure he was the State Extension Program Leader, Natural Resources. Dr. Norland holds a B.S. and M.S.in Natural Resources (Forest Resource Management and Ph.D. in Environmental Biology, all from The Ohio State University. He is a member of the Society of American Foresters and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Guy K.M. Smith
Deputy Chair,
Extension Working Party
Guy K.M. Smith is Knowledge Exchange Manager and Regional Coordinator
with the Canadian Wood Fibre Centre of Natural Resources Canada. He has
over 22 years of experience in forestry knowledge transfer and extension,
helping to bring innovations into forest policy, planning and operations.
He helps to build partnerships among federal, provincial, industry, academic
and non-profit organizations dedicated to putting knowledge into practice.
In 2008 Guy chaired the 9th IUFRO International Extension and Technology
Transfer Symposium, hosted by Canada. Some 60 participants from five
continents shared experiences in the development and delivery of extension
and technology transfer activities that respond to regional, national
and international policy priorities. Guy has visited extension specialists
across the U.S.A. and in Australia to exchange ideas and best practices,
and applies what he has learned internationally to his work with the
Government of Canada.
